| BACKGROUND: A pasta manufacturer was in dispute with their water supply company over charges levied for effluent discharge. They were billed on 95% of their metered water which made the assumption that only 5% of the water was used in the manufacturing process. |

| THE PROBLEM:
The effluent discharge was not being measured. The Water Co. had indicated that if the flows were measured then they would recalculate the bills based on actual flow readings. |
FLOWLINE'S METERING SOLUTION:
A Marsh McBirney Model 260 Flo-Tote flowmeter was installed in the chamber. The installation was carried out by Flowline. Flows were not interrupted or by-passed. Data was logged in the meter and downloaded after 4 weeks. | ||||||||
| THE RESULT: Based on only the first 4 weeks of flow data the water company reduced their bill by £50,000. | |||||||||
| EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: The Marsh McBirney Model 260 is an electromagnetic open channel or partially filled pipe flow meter. The system uses a single sensor mounted at the bottom of the channel to measure both the velocity and the depth of the flow and log them internally. The Model 253 has recently been evaluated by NEL on behalf of the DTI, a full independent report is available. Full user lists and references are available. | |||||||||
