| BACKGROUND: Final effluent from the treatment works flows through a buried 1400 mm N.B. GRP pipe which runs to the river Cam. Flow metering was required in order to verify the sites existing metering systems. |

| THE PROBLEM:
The flows could not be shut down which meant that conventional spool piece mag meters could not be used. Also as the pipe is buried, installation of full bore magnetic flowmeters would have required considerable pipework modifications. |
FLOWLINE'S METERING SOLUTION:
A Marsh McBirney Model 284 Multi Mag flowmeter was supplied and installed by Flowline, the meter was installed into a 2" valve fitted to a section of pipe that had been accessed by the creation of a new manhole directly above it. Flows were not interrupted or shutdown during installation which took approx 3 hours. | ||||||||
| EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: The Marsh McBirney Model 284 is an electromagnetic multi-point insertion flow meter. The system uses a single sensor mounted through a 2" valve, the sensor has 5 pairs of electrodes which each measure the flow velocity in a specific part of the flow profile, a remote mounted control unit calculates and display's both flowrate and total and outputs industry standard signals. The Model 284 has recently been evaluated by WRc a full independent report is available. Full user lists and references are available. | |||||||||
