| BACKGROUND:
Anglian Water conducted an audit of 450 sewage treatment works handling populations of 1000 and above. This audit highlighted many cases of either non-existent or out of specification. |

| THE PROBLEM:
A number of flumes and weirs required remediation work, other sites had hydraulic conditions or space constraints that made the use of a flume or weir impossible, all sites had effluent flowing continuously which made shut down difficult and expensive. |
FLOWLINE'S METERING SOLUTION:
Over 20 Marsh McBirney Model 253 Flo-System flowmeters were installed at different sites in the AW region. All installations were carried out by Flowline using confined space equipped personnel where required. Flows were not interrupted or by passed. All installations were supplied with compliance certification.
| EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Marsh McBirney Model 253 is an electromagnetic open channel or partially filled pipe flow meter. The system uses a single sensor mounted at the bottom of the channel to measure both the velocity and the depth of the flow. The remote mounted control unit calculates and display's both flowrate and total and outputs industry standard signals. The Model 253 has recently been evaluated by NEL on behalf of the DTI, a full independent report will be published shortly. Full user lists and references are available.
