Flo-Dar, Non Intrusive Radar Sewer Flowmeter - From Marsh McBirney
Background
Customer is a large commercial laundry, the site has two effluent discharges in drains. They were billed by their water supplier on a % of metered incoming water but were convinced they had more evaporation than their water supplier had estimated.
The Problem
Flows had to be measured in existing drains/chambers, the site had no space to allow metering chambers to be constructed. Space in the chambers was very tight, the flows were hot and usually of a low volume. No shutdown was permitted so the meters would have to be installed without affecting the flows.
Flowline's Metering Solution
Flowline's solution was to supply our Flo-Dar Radar Open Channel flowmeter from Marsh McBirney. Initially a survey using two battery powered systems was made, the units were web enabled with data being automatically transmitted to a customized web site, the customer was able to check the flow readings whenever they wanted. The survey lasted three months and showed savings would be possible if the flows were permantly measured. The flow data was also given to the Water supplier who confirmed they would accept the data and reduce the water bills to the company. Flowline then installed two fixed systems, these had local displays, signal outputs and web data transfer to a custom website. The website showed graphical data and automatically generated reports showing flow rates and totals.A few months after the installation the customer confirmed that savings made had resulted in the meters paying for themselbes in three months! The Flo-Dar has no contact with the flow, this means no routine servicing or cleaning making it suitable for even the most challenging applications.
